Kara is in love with Blackjack; Inez is in love with Kipp; Blackjack is in love with just about anybody; and Kipp doesn't understand what love is. But then, he hasn't got time. He's got a show to produce, and with Teeming Acres slipping in the ratings, he's got to act fast!
The characters themselves are rebelling, and contesting the authority of producer and director Inez and Kipp. In particular, leading lady Kara has had enough. She's tired of having to be in love with a cheat, she's tired of having to listen to records on vinyl, and she's particularly tired of her nosy neighbors Nora and Eldora barging in at every twist and turn in her story line. Nora and Eldora bemoan the fact that while once they were stars on this show, they've now been relegated to spinsters whose every happiness is based on Kara's success at love.
Right when Kara believes that Blackjack really will quit his cheating ways, Kipp finds a way to throw everyone into an uproar. He brings in Veronique - the Vixen - who has proven herself around the soap opera world, to add a little spice to the show. "I was brought in to be your competition," she tells Kara. "This should be easy."
Inez spirits Blackjack and Kara away to a restaurant, where first Kipp, then Veronique, act as the server. While Kipp's performance does little to advance the script, Veronique's offers Blackjack a lot more than what's on the menu. Kara storms out in anger, and when Blackjack and Veronique run off for a love tryst, Nora and Eldora beg Kara to dump him and move on with her life. Kara has finally had enough. She refuses to let her life, fictitious as it is, to be run any longer by Kipp and Inez. It's time for her to take control - even at the risk of being written out!
Teeming Acres is published by Brooklyn Publishers of Odessa, TX, but the playwright still retains rights of production.
